Studying in a school environment has good benefits for our children. Interacting with other children of their age, learning how to follow rules and regulations, figuring out how to socialize with other people, and adjusting to different situations are just a few of the things that our children would learn outside our home premises. And that’s the reason why a lot of us parents would prefer a school set-up learning.

But, to be able to fully help our children unleash their full potential we have to assist them in going to school and guide them in all their school activities. While this may sometimes make us overwhelmed due to other life activities that we have to do, just remember that we are making it for the future of our child or children.

The guidance and support that we were able to show and give to them daily mean so much to them. This could help them to be more confident in going to school because they have the ample support they needed.

Things to let them know:

  • Reminding them of the importance of going to school, meeting their classmates and teachers, and of course studying in a school environment.
  • Tell them the relevance of social connection to their well-being. Socializing with other people, most importantly to children of their age can help them to show what they are capable of, and it helps them to relate to different individual’s attitudes.
  • Inform them about the rules and regulations of their school. Before the school classes, institutions come up with the orientation phase. So, here they enumerate all the rules and regulations that their school is implementing.

Things to prepare for them:

  • The night before the school day, you should prepare their clothing or uniform, socks, shoes, hygiene essentials, and their school bag with books, notebooks, and other things needed for that day.
  • If you are the one who prepared their things in their bag, be sure to let them know where the specific things are located.
  • Inform them of their class schedule and important activities that they will be going to do or perform for that day.
  • Remind them to participate in their class discussion, respect everybody in their school and enjoy studying!

During the day:

  • Prepare a healthy breakfast for your child and let them eat before going to school. Eating breakfast can help to kickstart their day by providing the essential nutrients they needed to have a strong body and an alert mind.
  • Prepare healthy snacks that they can eat during their break time in school, and choose nutritious foods to energize and nourish their body.
  • Don’t forget their water. Drinking water will keep them hydrated throughout the day.

After their class:

  • Greet them with a happy face, and ask what happened in their class. Assessing their mood will help us figure out what the child had experienced in school.
  • Ask about how the child gets along with classmates, and how he performed in their class activities.
  • Check whether the child ate the snacks you prepared.
  • Check any assignments that they have for tomorrow’s class, and remind the child to make them ahead of time.

Allow your child to make their assignments so that they could build their confidence in solving different circumstances. We are only allowed to guide and assist them. And it won’t give any merits if we are the ones doing it for them.

Going to school must be a fulfilling activity that our children must experience and they can do it by providing them with their essential needs, ample support, and giving time to improve their skills.

It’s true if the conversation is healthy, peaceful, and productive. It isn’t true if the conversation sounds boastful, envious, and purely negative talking about someone else life. If you aren’t comfortable with the scenario you better stop the conversation right away to avoid further conflict.

A healthy conversation should help you acquire learnings in life that you can use to guide your way through your life’s journey. It should be a time to share your ideas or opinions about a topic that could help you and the other person.

A few weeks ago, I experienced talking with different people, with different personalities and behaviors. And there are things that I learned a lot through our short conversations. And below I will share with you great tips that will help you to have a better conversation with anyone else.

1. Know the person whom you are talking with

  • Assess the personality, character, and behavior of the person you are about to converse with.

2. Remember that there is a right topic in every situation.

  • It means that you shouldn’t talk about things that are not meant to be shared with the person whom you are talking with. Topics that are valuable to share are the things that are related to your present scenario.

3. Think of a shared interest or topic

  • A shared interest or topic is something that will make your conversation alive and productive. Alive means you are enjoying your conversation because it is engaging to both of you. Productive means that both of you have something to gain from the topic that you are talking about.

4. Share your comments on what they say

  • If you have something to say, then say it. Don’t be ashamed or feel intimidated. It might be more helpful to share your comments than not. You might regret it later, thinking that you didn’t share valuable words.

5. Ask open-ended questions

  • Open-ended questions are good ways to tackle more. This can give a good feeling to the ones with whom you have the conversation. It means that you are interested and not bored.

6. Give the right reaction to a person’s opinion or comments

  • Give the appropriate response, like facial expressions, hand/body gestures, or tone of voice.

7. Just go with the flow, but divert what isn’t appropriate

  • Some people love talking and sharing information under the sun. Listen and avoid interrupting the person. But if it seems to be inappropriate, you can divert the topic to something good.

8. Avoid talking more about yourself, and never dominate the conversation

  • A meaningful and purposeful conversation should be balanced. It shouldn’t be all about you, and it shouldn’t be all about the other person.

It’s also a time to gather with our friends and relatives to catch up with each other. We usually spend it on activities like cooking, eating, going somewhere, and doing fun activities together.

But, though these days can bring countless joys and fun, we also need to watch out for our health and wellness.

Below are some ways for you to stay healthy during holidays:

  • Consider boosting your immunity with vitamins and minerals to protect you from catching illnesses.
  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  • Do your hygiene, such as bathing, handwashing, and using clean clothes.
  • Be active, spend a few minutes exercising to stay fit and healthy.
  • Avoid stress, choose to be happy, and enjoy whatever activities you do.
  • Choose to prepare and cook healthy meals.
  • Don’t skip meals.
  • Eat fiber-rich foods to control fats and blood sugar build-ups.
  • Be mindful of what you eat. During a get-together, we often prepare or see too many foods at the table. It’s very tempting! But remember to just eat the right amount of food at a time.
  • Delegate responsibility, avoid doing all the tasks if you can ask someone to help you. You might find yourself tired up to the point that it’s already ruining your immune system.
  • Watch out for your emotional well-being, too. Manage your expectations, or don’t expect too much. Holidays bring so much fun to many of us, and it sometimes brings high expectations. Sporadically, there are a few people out there who are experiencing loneliness because they can’t get along with their loved ones. If you are one of those, please don’t feel bad. You can still enjoy many things around that could make you happy!
  • Get enough sleep after a long and tiring day.

We should take note that the true meaning of happiness is not about the material or physical things that we see or hold. It’s the fulfillment that we can achieve from within. Let us spend the coming holiday season with greatness from above, and let’s all feel the importance of this celebration.

Road trips are also a great way to relax our bodies, and at the same time to connect with other people. It’s a great activity for the entire family, or group of friends to create bonding moments together and to produce happy memories that you can look back in the future.

A simple road trip can relieve our stress, elevate our mood, and help with our overall health.

But aside from that, we also have to make sure that we are safe whenever we travel, these tips below will help you achieve a smooth and comfy road trip!

  • Take enough rest and sleep before your travel. Especially to the one who will drive the car, to avoid sleepiness that can cause road accidents.
  • Don’t drive especially when you’re tired. Reschedule your trip if you are not prepared.
  • Check your car engine. The driver should assess the car before traveling.
  • Study the direction, or map of your destination. To avoid time delays.
  • Drive safely.
  • Bring delicious and nutritious snacks. Avoid sweets, salty and oily foods.
  • Stay hydrated, bring enough water to replenish your body. Even though you are just seating in the car, you will also feel tired.
  • Have a plan on where to stop.
  • Sit comfortably, bring with you some pillows that you can put on your back to avoid back pains.
  • Don’t forget to bring important things that you will need to your destination.
  • Ask your companions about how they feel, maybe someone is already feeling uneasy? Occasionally, they just don’t want to tell it.
  • Play upbeat music to keep you entertained, avoid playing calming music when driving as it will make you feel sleepy.
  • Stop every 2 to 3 hours to do some stretching, and to check your fuel.
  • Talk about interesting stories, just to make the road trip lively.
  • Take photos for remembrance.
  • Document your trip through a simple video, taking photos, or journaling about your experience.

Traveling expands your knowledge because it helps you to explore the realities of life and be able to experience it.

Yesterday was our second child’s birthday! The same day when we went to our doctor for scheduled Cesarean delivery. Though a bit nervous because it’s been five years since my last delivery. What I did at that moment is to pray and thank God for the wonderful baby that he entrusted to our care.

The same feeling five years ago! A mixed emotion because you never know what will happen after a few hours while in that delivery room, contrary to others’ belief it’s not like you are just lying there and waiting for the baby to come out!

During that time, I calmed myself and believed that everything will go well. At exactly 1:45 pm, this little boy came out in this world, making his first cry and first movements outside my womb. I can’t just explain how hubby, the eldest son, and I was so happy with the new member of our family!

Unnoticeably, day by day this little boy is growing too fast! Making countless changes as he reaches his growth and developmental milestones. We are so happy because he grows well, is healthy, and be able to reach every step accordingly.

Here are simple tips to make your three-year-old happy on his birthday:

  • Ask the celebrant of what food he would like on the day of his birthday! Our little one smiled and showed priceless happiness when we asked about his food choices. He showed that emotion because he believed that we like to know and consider his opinion.
  • Prepare ahead of time to avoid rushing on the day of your child’s birthday. Such as decorations (you can make it one day before his birthday) and a list of recipes to make or buy during your child’s birthday.
  • Set a specific time to start the celebration, and be able to set the table ahead of time.
  • Be able to know and get ready for the gift he would like to receive on his birthday.
  • On the day of the celebration, don’t forget to pray (depends on what religion you are), be happy, and make the moment alive by singing a birthday song before the celebrant will blow the cake’s candle!
  • Be able to take some pictures or videos for remembrance.

Remember, that the joy of the celebration isn’t on the food, decorations, or gifts that are to be given to the celebrant. It’s about the presence, support, and love of the people around him or her.

Let me ask you this question, do you love yourself? You might ask me back, hey why are you asking that, of course I love myself! A follow-up question, how do you treat other people?

I asked the second question because it’s so easy to tell that you love yourself, but how you treat other people will reflect on how you treat yourself. It’s not new that even in the bible it reminds us to, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself!”

Your tasks:

Learn to consider the feelings of other people, learn to recognize their worth, learn to appreciate their efforts, and learn to respect them wholeheartedly.

You might ask:

But what if they don’t do that to me? Why should I give them all that positive treatment and efforts? To answer it shortly, it’s because the whole benefits will go to you. If they don’t treat you right, they will be the ones to suffer, they will feel more stress, and they will feel being disappointed because you don’t mind their silly thing. That thing could interfere their health and will ruin their life. You don’t want that to happen because you love yourself, right?

Self-awareness and acceptance:

Loving yourself means you know your strength and weakness, and you know how to use and improve it. You’re not comparing yourself because you accept the fact that you are unique, and you have that abilities and capabilities. You are honest to yourself, in the sense that you don’t make false beliefs just to raise your worth.

Here are the benefits of loving yourself:

  • It improves your self-esteem or self-confidence. You believe in yourself, and therefore increases your will to perform an activity.
  • It provides you with the self-worth you need in life. Loving yourself, raises your ability to recognize your importance as a human being.
  • You feel more energized than usual, and you have a positive view about life, that motivates you to do more.
  • Furthermore, you feel happier, and have a good outlook towards life. For the reason that, you are not stressed, that’s why it’s so easy for you to bring out that beautiful smile on your face!
  • You are more productive, and you can easily finish daily tasks and personal goals because you feel inspired.
  • You will become the better version of what you want to be.
  • It helps you to be aware of your potentials or what you can do to achieve your goals.
  • It improves your mental capacity and overall health. You are far from getting mood disorders like anxiety, depression etc. and you are doing or performing good ways on how to take good care of your body.

Recently, I encountered a student in my tutorial session who asked me if how will she respond to a question? Considering that the person who is asking, was already aware that she took a certain course about health and nutrition, and wants to hear something regarding what she learned about the course? This is a part of her preparation for her incoming screening interview.

Just like in a normal scenario, we really can’t avoid being questioned, measured and being tested by anybody else. Whatever the reason, you always have to prepare in dealing and handling such kind of situation. This scenario shouldn’t alarm you, as this is one way for you to learn, and be aware of the things which you are good at, and to know the things which you need to improve.

Let me share with you some ways on what you can do if ever you encounter a similar scenario in the future.

Here are the tips on how to respond appropriately:

  • Before an interview (if ever this is the case, just like my student), you have to review and summarize what you learned about your entire course.
  • Plan possible answers, but make it natural or simple. Meaning, you should be using your original words or way to answer, and it should always be relatable to the topic.
  • Aim to stand out in giving your answer. (It should serve as your objective for the entire screening interview).
  • Make sure to eat your meal! Food is our greatest fuel in order for our body and mind to work properly.
  • Be calm and make sure that you are presentable.
  • Be confident and avoid overthinking.
  • Aim to focus and relax.
  • Make sure to answer the question in a way that is simple and straightforward.
  • Avoid to sound like you are bragging, and as if you know everything.
  • Always make it sure to present yourself as an educated person.
  • Do a restating of the question, like this. You are asking me about what I know, and what can I share with you regarding what I learned about my course?
  • Give a simple definition of your course.
  • Give a brief overview of your knowledge. The important keynotes regarding your course.
  • While answering the question, you have to maintain eye contact with your interviewer. It will show that you are confident in what you are saying.
  • Speak clearly and loud (but just enough to be heard).
  • Give appropriate hand gestures if possible.
  • Be kind and be humble.
  • Be able to ask the person back, regarding what else he/she would like to hear from you.
  • Give gratitude for the experience you encountered.

What if you were asked on the spot?

  • Stay relax and focus on answering the question.
  • Be confident, but don’t brag.
  • Maintain eye contact while giving your answer.
  • Express your answer by simple and clear sentences.
  • Don’t go off the topic.
  • Give gratitude for the experience you encountered.

Whatever the reason, or the outcome of the experience you’ve encountered, it will always be very beneficial for you. As it increases your exposure to different people and experiences that could help with your mental and social development.

Enhancing your knowledge is a good way to fulfill what it really meant for, and one way to do it is to be able to share it to other people.
  • Use your learning style! We have our own way of learning, my style is different from yours and your style is different from me as well. In addition, we also have different time when it comes to achieving our goals. So, do not feel worrisome or intimidated to someone you know that are already successful in their field because you’ll soon achieve it also, just be willing to trust the process and work for it!
  • Find meaning in everything that you do, and you’ll see that everything will follow as well. As a result, you will be able to focus and exert the needed effort to accomplish something.
  • Learn to be a hungry learner! Meaning, you are eager to get a lot of information and learnings that you perceive to be worth knowing. Motivating yourself to input numerous learnings into your brain is a good way to develop your curiosity, it will add up to your self-development. Encourage yourself to do more and work for the things you’ve found some difficulties.
  • Follow your intuitions, do what you feel like you are supposed to do. You will find more learnings by doing it in action. Never be afraid of trying out things which you think can improve you as a person. Trial and error are just a part of it, don’t be afraid to try or fail because it’s better to fail than not trying at all!

  • This is the way you handle your life. Avoid feeling bad or negative about something. Make sure to remind yourself that it’s just a part of life, and remember that even the nature has ups and downs as well. There are also challenges just like the storm, but one thing for sure is that it will soon go away.
  • Be cheerful! Smiling and feeling happy are very beneficial to our health and wellness. By doing these, we are attracting positive energies into our lives. So, explore on the things that makes you the happiest person on Earth.
  • Learn to say thank you for everything. For the blessings that you received, and for all the blessings that are coming up daily. Your ability to breathe every day is such a great blessing already.
  • Organize everything, your house, your relationship with other people and specially your thoughts. Your thoughts should be taken care of, similar to how you take good care of your physical self.
  • Always remember to be watchful of what you say or do to other people, and always be watchful of the things that you are putting inside your mind.
  • Keep an eye for your health and wellness. These are your battery in life, these will help you in achieving your goals. You cannot do your tasks, and achieve your goals anymore if you are weak and ill.

  • Encourage yourself to perform daily exercises which can make you feel better. Your cells, muscles, and body organs would be so happy if they feel that you are helping them to be well. Of course, just avoid vigorous exercising, light exercise each day are helpful.
  • Avoid negativities and focus on life-changing habits that could improve you as a person. Examples are: reading instead of too much screen time, making yourself busy instead of chitchatting to other people, understanding things, why it happened that way? Instead of why does that happen, I can’t get it. It means that our character should be based on what is good and what is right.
  • Be willing to spread goodness in everything that you do. Claim it that all your efforts will be paid off soon. Blessings and good fortune will come to those who have a clean and humble heart.

1. To promote a healthy lifestyle, we should eat a healthy meal.

Every breakfast, lunch, and dinner and drink enough water. Each meal is crucial in achieving overall health, specially breakfast because avoiding or skipping it is not good. Each meal should provide you with a balanced diet which composed of the essential nutrients that our body needs to perform its daily function well. Such foods that are really helpful to include in each meal are foods that are rich in nutrients, such as:

  • Energy boosting foods, like carbohydrates that can be found in rice, bread, beans, potatoes and oats.
  • Body building foods, these are foods that helps your body to maintain a stronger muscles and bones. Food examples of this group are: lean meats, poultry, fish, prawns, crabs, lobster, milk, eggs, yogurt, and cheese.
  • Your meal should also include body regulating foods. These are foods which contains a good amount of vitamins and minerals that are found mostly in fruits and vegetables. Foods such as apples, bananas, oranges, green leafy vegetables, broccoli and tomatoes.

  • You have to make a blog post plan. Why? Simply because if there is a scheduled activity that was written in whatever scheduler that you have, it could motivate or encourage you to do that certain activity. For example, (this topic should be done by this day and will publish this day). Come up with a schedule that is very comfortable to you and will not interrupt some of your daily activities. Example, once a week or once in every three or four days. Set your schedule, just avoid longer gaps of up to a month or months before you write your next blog post to avoid putting yourself to uncomfortable feeling in writing.
  • Check your page daily for updates, you can do it AM (morning) or PM (afternoon) or whatever time of the day that is best for you. Why do you need to check it? Because maybe there are comments to your previous posts which you don’t respond yet. You can also check who liked your post, and maybe you can spend time visiting their pages too. You can also like their blog posts or comment to it as well. This way you can start interacting and knowing what’s their up too. You can also update your older blog posts. There are many things that was already happened in the past, that’s why it’s a good idea to update older posts to freshen it up.
  • Look for inspiration, there are times that you feel inspired, and there are days that you won’t feel like writing anything. Consider going to a place where you feel relaxed, inspired and happy. This place doesn’t need to be far, in fact, an area in your house can do. Your room, your home desk, living room or in your garden. Make sure that the area you choose is a noise free area, and the environment is calming in order for your mind to create something. If you can manage, you can go to a nearer park or places where you can see people or nature that can give you an idea of what to write in a certain topic.
  • Don’t stress yourself, if you are stressed because you can’t write anything, the tendency is that you will only make it worst. So, no need to deal with it as if you feel like you are unable. Just enjoy and make it a fun journey instead! Everything follows if you were able to just enjoy it. For the meantime, gather your thoughts in a notebook, be it words or sentences, and focus on it. Soon you will be able to write something about it.
